Scholarships and Fundraising Information:

We recognize the Agora Experience is not inexpensive, so we have provided some fundraising tools and tips to help you seek support for your journey.  This is a great opportunity for you to begin working on an important aspect of international development - - raising awareness.

The opportunity to fundraise for yourself can be exciting, challenging and easier than you may think.  Below are some things you might consider when seeking support.  Once you have registered we will send you a letter for your potential supporters talking about what the Experience is and giving reasons they might be interested in supporting you as well as a more complete fundraising packet.

Who to ask…
  • family
  • friends
  • teachers
  • local businesses - especially those where you know someone
  • congregation or church foundation
  • local community service organizations like the Lions or Rotary
How to ask…
  • Respectfully! Let them know what the program is and why you are interested
  • Think creatively! People like fun ways to sponsor such as 'fund a day,' bartering (offer to give a lecture upon your return) and bake sales (we can send you some recipes if you are interested)...

Please note, this is not a tax deductible donation and though you should absolutely send a thank you note your supporters (or better yet a postcard from Romania) Agora cannot provide a tax-deductible receipt.

Agora Experience Scholarships
We want to share the Agora Experience with as many interested individuals as possible. Each year we will make two or three $500 scholarships available. However, Agora is not a profit making venture (we are like any non-profit in the US) and we can not offer the same support as a business.  Because of this, we require all scholarship applicants do attempt fundraising within their community. We think you will be surprised at the results!

Scholarship forms are due by April 14 in order to give you a chance to fundraise.  Please note, one criteria for a successful application is that you demonstrate your fundraising efforts.   Feel free to contact us with any questions in regard to scholarships.
