| | | One
important consideration when thinking about the Agora Experience, is what are the
benefits?
Potential benefits for you:
- The exciting experience of meaningful international adventure volunteerism (not time on a bus, time making a difference!),
- Gain new friends and networks on both sides of the ocean,
- Build skills and knowledge through participating in real-world community projects,
- Hands-on experience in sustainable development, and,
- A valuable volunteer experience supporting the global community, one that demonstrates your commitments and interests.
 | Short-term benefits to the area include:
- infrastructure improvements in the Vargyas Gorge (new bridge, trail or visitor center)
- assistance with Almas community projects (orchard improvements, construction of solar fruit driers etc...)
|
Long-term benefits to the area include:
- Better managed natural areas, through improved
trails and campsites. This raises the overall quality of experience for
gorge visitors, increases the protectability of the gorge and local
income potential from sustainable tourism products.
- The psychological
benefit of seeing volunteers in action is indisputable and leads to a
greater understanding about the value of volunteer work and an increase
in villager’s interest in their own environment.
- Healthier orchards generate higher crop yields and increase the
potential for local products. They also improve local nutrition by
increasing vitamin intake through dried fruits and jam.
